Unique journey/winter expedition searching for Steller Sea Eagles and encountering the nomadic reindeer breeders Even. Exclusive departure for our group.  We will have the rare opportunity of encounter the nomadic reindeer breeders who live in the North of Kamchatka and observe and photograph the magnificent Steller Sea Eagles. We will snowmobiling inside the Natural Park Bistrinsky surrounded by breathtaking views and visit the winter camp of the Even in the mountains, this region is so pretty to be called the "Switzerland in miniature". We will also call at the remote west coast of Kamchatka, where the legendary Sea of Okhotsk is frozen, to observe the magnificent and majestic Steller's Sea Eagles.

 

 

11 DAY ITINERARY

Day 1. Arrival in Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky.
Transfer to the hotel and welcome dinner. City tour and free time to prepare for the expedition.
Overnight at the Hotel Petropavlovsk ***.

Day 2. Full day excursion in the frozen Avacha Bay looking for the wildlife that overwinter here in spite of the extreme climate. We will have great chances to observe and photograph Steller Sea Eagles, Steller Sea Lions, Cormorants and Gulls on the pack ice.

Day 3. Another full day excursion in the Avacha Bay.

Day 4. After breakfast we will drive by 6WD vehicle to the west coast of Kamchatka, the one that overlooks the Sea of Okhotsk, at this time of the year entirely covered by pack ice. In winter, on these beaches the Steller Sea Eagles gather. Observe and photograph these majestic birds of prey, their wingspan reaches 2.5 metersis definitely an exciting experience.

Day 5. Full day dedicated to the observation and photography of the Eagles.

Day 6. After breakfast we drive north travelling by 6WD vehicle using the only road in Kamchatka through spectacular volcanic landscapes. We will stop for lunch at the old Cossacks settlement of Milkovo. Then we will move further to Esso. The small settlement is the capital of reindeer herders natives of Kamchatka, both Even and Koryak. The atmosphere is very cozy as the city is made up of small wooden buildings.

Day 7. Today the snowmobiles are waiting for us. We will reach the winter  camp of the Even reindeer breeders  where we can visit their tent and spend the day with them tasting their traditional food and learning about their traditions.
During the expedition it will be possible both drive the snowmobile or simply travel as passengers, in this case there will be an expert taking care of the drive.
IN BOTH CASES NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY.
Overnight at heated wooden cabin or reindeer herders heated traditional tent (Yurta).

Day 8. Another ride through beautiful scenery will bring us back to Esso. Our journey through the spectacular mountains of the Natural Park Bistrinsky and the mighty volcano Ichinsky, 3600 meters above sea level is one of the highlights of this tour. Arrived in Esso a bath in the hot springs is waiting for us.

Day 9. After breakfast we will drive all the way back to Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky.

Day 10. Reserve day in case of bad weather.

Day 11. After breakfast transfer to the airport in time for your flight to Moscow.
